FAQs

  • When you feel ready to open up & share some of your story. When you feel ready to change.

People sometimes arrive in therapy before they are ready and that’s okay. In this case, I will usually kindly send people on their way and let them know my door is always open when they are ready to do the work.

  • It’s normal to feel nervous before having your first session. Know that the whole process is voluntary. It’s voluntary what you want to share, if you want to remain with me and the number of sessions you have. In the first session I begin by explaining the therapy space, my therapeutic approaches, and various formalities, such as, privacy. Then I will ask you to share your difficulties, your story, if & when you feel ready, so that I can figure out how to best support you. I will ask you what goals you have for therapy and give you a map of what your therapy journey with me will look like (for example, the approximate amount of sessions I think would be helpful).

  • Yes. You can access up to 10 Medicare rebates of $98.65 for your sessions per year (as of 2025). You need a valid mental health treatment plan and a referral letter from your GP.

    • Additional sessions may be available after your first 10 rebates - you will need to discuss these options with your GP.

    • Valid Eating Disorder & Chronic Condition Management Plans are also accepted.

  • Walk & Talk therapy combines psychology, movement & the outdoors. Walk & Talk is wonderful for Thirroul & Wollongong-based folk who want to incorporate more movement/nature into their day.
Our initial session will be in-person in the Wollongong office or online, to ensure Walk & Talk is suitable for you.

It can be confronting to sit opposite someone and open up about your difficulties. Walking alongside each other can allow words to flow more easily.

If you get tired we can sit on a park bench. This approach is weather dependent, the plan B is always online.

Sessions typically happen on the Coastal walk or Wollongong Botanic Gardens. I will provide you with details in your initial session. You can request an alternative location, however, this may come with an extra charge.

Comfortable clothes and sun protection are recommended.

  • These sessions are conducted via video or phone conferencing using a secure online platform from the comfort of your home. It’s important you have a private space, where no one can overhear you, and a secure and fast internet connection.

I email you a video link before your session or you can request a phone call if this is your preference.

  • The length of therapy is dependent on your presenting concerns and what you would like to achieve in your time with me. Some people only need a couple of sessions, other people need 20+. Some people come for 10 sessions and take a break, then return to go deeper at a later point.

In my opinion, the goal of psychology is for you to become your own therapist so you don’t need me anymore. When I think you are ready to have a therapy break, or drop down the frequency of your sessions I will let you know and vice versa, I will check-in with you regularly to see how you are going in therapy and what your needs are because are situations/needs change.

  • Yes. This is dependent on your Health Fund. You will need to check with your health fund prior to engaging with me to determine what rebates you can access.

Please note, you cannot use your Health Fund with a Medicare rebate. You can only use one funding body per session.

Unfortunately, I don’t currently have HICAPS, you will need to pay for your session in full, I will then send you an invoice you will manually have to send to your Health Fund to then receive the rebate.
